About Moneydig Presbyterian Church
Moneydig Presbyterian Church stands near Garvagh in Moneydig, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It belongs to the Coleraine and Limavady Presbytery within Ireland’s Presbyterian denomination and is registered as a charity in Northern Ireland. The building was considered for statutory protection in 2012, but was not listed because much of its historic fabric had been replaced with modern materials.
Presbyterians worshipped locally from the early nineteenth century, initially gathering in the school hall. Elder George Orr encouraged the construction of a dedicated place of worship, and the congregation and present building were established in 1836. Members came from neighbouring congregations at Aghadowey, Garvagh and Kilrea. Designed as a four-bay hall with a gabled form, the church later hosted temperance meetings during the nineteenth century. A cinema-type screen was added for its centenary in 1936.
