About St John's Church Malone
St John’s Church Malone is an active Church of Ireland place of worship on Malone Road in Belfast, County Antrim. It belongs to the Diocese of Connor and is protected as a Grade B listed building, a designation granted in 1985.
The present Victorian Gothic church was designed by Henry Seaver and completed in stages. Its chancel and transepts date from 1893–95, while the nave followed in 1905. A tower formed part of the original scheme but was omitted because funding was insufficient. The building replaced an earlier church dating from 1842, which had served a congregation first gathered in a temporary place of worship in nearby fields from 1839. A notable feature is Wilhelmina Geddes’s 1920 stained-glass window, inspired by Revelation and depicting the healing leaves of the tree.
