About St Senara's Church, Zennor

St Senara’s Church, Zennor is the Church of England parish church serving Zennor in Cornwall. Dedicated to the local saint Senara, it belongs to the Diocese of Truro and continues to hold Sunday worship, weddings and funerals. The church is protected as a Grade I listed building.

Christian worship has taken place on this coastal site since the sixth century. Tradition associates its foundation with Saint Senara after she returned from Ireland. Rebuilt during the 1100s, the present structure combines Norman work with additions dating from the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries, including the north aisle. Notable features include a western tower, a possibly thirteenth-century octagonal font and the carved Mermaid Chair, thought to be over 600 years old. The six bells include two early examples and four cast in 1926; they were restored in 2019 for change ringing. A thorough restoration preceded the church’s reopening in December 1890.
