About St Gothian's Church, Gwithian

St Gothian’s Church, Gwithian is an Anglican place of worship at Phillack in Cornwall and belongs to the Diocese of Truro. It continues to serve parish life through the Godrevy team ministry, together with Anglican churches at St Erth, Hayle, Phillack and Gwinear. The building has Grade II* protection.

Originating in the thirteenth century, the church gained its tower during the fifteenth. Edmund Sedding substantially remodelled the building from 1865 to 1867, renewing sections of the nave, chancel and both transepts, as well as their roofs. Elements salvaged when the southern aisle and its arches were dismantled were incorporated into a replacement lychgate. Sedding created the design for a memorial stained-glass window dedicated to Mr Drury, a curate who drowned in 1865; Beer of Exeter produced it. The chancel ceiling includes carved wood brought from Phillack church, while John Sedding decorated the reredos. An instrument by Cousans Sons and Co is also housed inside.
