About St Laud's Church, Mabe
St Laud’s Church, Mabe is a Church of England parish church in Mabe, Cornwall, within the Diocese of Truro. Dedicated to St Laudus of Coutances, it continues to hold weekly worship and shares a benefice with St Michael and All Angels in Ponsanooth. The church has held Grade II* listed status since 1957 and belongs to an open and inclusive parish.
Dating chiefly from the early 15th century, with some earlier fabric in the chancel, the church has a nave, chancel, two aisles and a battlemented western tower with pinnacles. Granite rubble and dressed granite form much of the structure, while the tower and southern aisle use granite ashlar. Lightning caused severe damage in 1866, leaving parts including the tower and porch intact; Piers St Aubyn directed the extensive rebuilding completed in 1868. Notable features include reused medieval windows, carved porch details, a two-manual organ inaugurated in 1920 and six bells, four cast in 1876 and two added in 1930.
