About St Martin's Church, Liskeard
St Martin’s Church, Liskeard is an active Anglican parish church serving the Cornish town of Liskeard. It has Grade II* protection and ranks behind only St Petroc’s in Bodmin in size among Cornwall’s parish churches. Its parish is shared with the church at St Keyne.
Small elements survive from the Norman period, although the present structure is chiefly a product of the 1400s. Its southern chapel dates to 1428, the adjacent chancel aisle to 1430, and work on the northern side began in 1477. Richard Coad directed major repairs to the fabric during 1878 and 1879, while the interior was renewed in 1890. After earlier repairs, John Sampson oversaw the tower’s substantial reconstruction from 1898 to 1902. The organ has three keyboards and 40 sounding stops, and the tower houses eight bells tuned in E flat. Two old stone crosses from Tencreek and Culverland were placed in the churchyard in 1908.
