About St Brevita’s Church, Lanlivery
St Brevita’s Church, Lanlivery is a Church of England parish church in the Cornish village of Lanlivery. Dedicated to Saint Bryvyth, also known as Brevita, it is the only church associated with this little-known saint. The church remains part of a shared benefice with five neighbouring parishes and is protected as a Grade I listed building. The Saints’ Way pilgrimage route also passes through Lanlivery.
Originating in the late 14th century, the church was developed substantially during the 15th century, when its south aisle, porch and tower were added. Its Perpendicular Gothic structure combines granite rubble with dressed stone. Nineteenth-century restoration introduced the present pulpit and seating, while memorials from the 17th to 19th centuries survive inside. An organ made in 1888 was transferred here from St Blazey in 1994, and the tower houses eight bells. Numerous historic monuments also stand in the churchyard.
