About St James' Church, Jacobstow

St James’ Church, Jacobstow is an active Church of England parish church in the Cornish village of Jacobstow. Built in about 1450, it is protected as a Grade I listed building. The church shares its parish arrangements with seven neighbouring churches, including those at Treneglos, Warbstow, Poundstock and Week St Mary.

The present building is largely fifteenth-century and succeeded an earlier church documented from the thirteenth century. A substantial restoration was completed in 1886 under Launceston architect Otho Bathurst Peter. The work included reconstructing the chancel, replacing the nave roof, repairing and reglazing the windows, reseating the interior and renewing the floors. The aisle roofs were also reslated and releaded, while masonry was cleaned and repointed. Two new chancel windows were added, and the restored church reopened on 4 August 1886. Its organ was made by J. Trudgian & Son.
