About Church of Saint Winnear

The Church of Saint Winnear is a Church of England parish church near Hayle in Cornwall. Dating from the medieval period, it is protected as a Grade I listed building. The church shares its parish with Anglican churches in Hayle, St Erth, Phillack and Gwithian.

The building originated in the 13th century and was extended during the 14th century. Its granite tower was added in the mid-15th century and rises in three sections. The plan includes three aisles, with a south aisle shorter than the nave and two aisles on the north side. John Dando Sedding restored the chancel in 1870, renewing its oak roof, seating and five-light window. Wider repairs followed in 1878 and 1879, including work on the roofs, screen and floors. New bells were first sounded in January 1880. The present organ, made by Griffen and Stroud in 1922, was transferred from Tregajorran Wesleyan Chapel and installed here in 1993.
