About Church of St Anne
The Church of St Anne is a Church of England church at Hessenford in Deviock, Cornwall. Dedicated to the mother of the Virgin Mary, it formerly served as a parish church and is now protected as a Grade II listed building. The parish was reunited with St Germans in 1984.
Built in 1832 to accommodate Hessenford’s increasing population, the church was consecrated in 1833 and became an independent parish in 1851. Its chancel was added in 1855, while J P St Aubyn reconstructed the remainder in 1871 in the Early English style. Slatestone rubble is complemented by limestone detailing, and a modest tower and spire rise above the building, although no bell was ever installed. Clayton and Bell produced its stained glass, including the east window showing Christ with three archangels. Other features include a Caen stone and alabaster pulpit by Harry Hems and an organ acquired through public donations in 1901.
