About Church of St Meubred
The Church of St Meubred is a Church of England parish church in Cardinham, Cornwall. The Grade I listed building has served the parish in its present form since the fifteenth century, although a chapel dedicated to St Mewbredus the Martyr occupied the site by 1085.
Built from local slatestone with granite dressings, the church has north and south aisles, a granite porch and a three-stage western tower. Medieval wagon roofs, carved bosses, a stone font and fifteenth-century bench ends survive inside. The chancel was renovated and a vestry added during the late nineteenth century. After bombing damaged the chancel windows in 1942, they were replaced with stained glass designed by Christopher Webb. Other features include a sundial dated 1739, a fourteenth-century Easter sepulchre and royal items connected with Charles I and Charles II. Two medieval crosses, once incorporated into the building, were restored and moved to the churchyard in 1872.
