About Church of St Adwen
The Church of St Adwen is an active Church of England parish church in Advent, Cornwall. Dedicated to St Adwen, a daughter of King Brychan of Brycheiniog, it is protected as a Grade I listed building. The parish has longstanding links with Lanteglos-by-Camelford and now shares a benefice with churches in Lanteglos and Camelford.
Built around 1250, the church retains a thirteenth-century north transept and western tower, together with a Norman font. Its fifteenth-century south aisle reflects a later phase of enlargement. The tower is distinguished as the only one at a Cornish church with eight pinnacles and houses six bells, the earliest cast around 1792. Restoration in 1847–48 included the removal of the south chapel. Between 1872 and 1874, the nave and chancel’s northern walls and the north transept were reconstructed, while pews gave way to open seating. Further restoration followed in 1975. Memorials include a carved granite stone commemorating William and Agnis Michel and their children.
