About St Mary's Church

St Mary’s Church stood on Betws Road in Llanrwst, Conwy. The building has since been demolished, although parts of its walls remain. Its stone altar was preserved and moved to the northern aisle of St Grwst’s Church elsewhere in the town.

Henry Kennedy designed the church, which was built between 1841 and 1842 to serve English-speaking residents and visitors. In 1874 and 1875, the Lancaster architectural practice of Paley and Austin enlarged the chancel to three times its former size by extending it towards the east. The work also included new seating and cost £925. Two chancel windows incorporated stained glass made by Ward and Hughes.
