About Saint Paul's Church

Saint Paul’s Church stands on Rhiw Road in Colwyn Bay, Conwy. It is an active Anglican parish church within the Diocese of St Asaph and belongs to the Church in Wales. Cadw has recognised its architectural and historic importance with a Grade II* listing.

A mission room occupied the site from 1872, followed in 1880 by a timber and iron church that was destroyed by fire six years later. The present cruciform building was developed in stages to designs by Douglas and Fordham. Its nave dates from 1887–88, the chancel from 1894–95, and the substantial buttressed tower was finished in 1911. Built from coursed limestone rubble with red Runcorn sandstone detailing, the church has a broad five-bay nave, lancet windows and a rose window in the southern transept. A memorial narthex by W. D. Caroe was added in 1920. Notable fittings include stained glass by Horace Wilkinson, carved chancel furnishings and an organ first made by Peter Conacher and Son.
