About Tullibody Old Kirk
Tullibody Old Kirk is a roofless medieval church at Menstrie in Clackmannanshire, Scotland. No longer used for parish worship, it is protected as a scheduled monument. The surrounding burial ground is separately listed at Category B.
The church originated in the 12th century and was reconstructed during the 1500s, with further restoration undertaken in 1760. It measures about 19 metres long and 6.7 metres wide. Two 16th-century entrances remain, one bearing the date 1539. A bellcote added in 1772 crowns the west gable, while the west windows and southern porch were introduced in the 19th century. Memorials include those to George Abercromby, who died in 1699, and the Haig family. In 1560, French soldiers removed the church roof and used its timbers to cross the River Devon after the bridge at Tullibody was destroyed.
