About St John the Baptist's Church, Guilden Sutton

St John the Baptist's Church, Guilden Sutton, is an Anglican place of worship in a village outside Chester, Cheshire. It remains in use as a parish church within Chester’s diocese, archdeaconry and deanery. Its benefice is shared with St Peter’s at Plemstall, and the building has Grade II protection.

The present church dates from 1815 and replaced an older structure whose chancel collapsed during a storm in 1802. Brick walls support roofs covered with Welsh slate, while masonry from the sixteenth-century building survives within the nave. A Victorian wooden bellcote stands at the western end. Notable fittings include a circular font bearing the date 1635, a 1698 doorway with twisted balusters, and a painted memorial to the Whitehead family. Work completed in 2001 altered the chancel, added toilet facilities and improved the entrance. The bellcote underwent repairs in 2005 following damage caused by deathwatch beetles.
