About Our Lady Queen of Peace
Our Lady Queen of Peace is a Roman Catholic parish church on Waunlanyrafon in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, opposite the town’s police station. The church remains active, with Mass celebrated on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Carmelite priests have served the parish since 2004, making it the only Catholic church in Wales under the care of a Carmelite community.
A Catholic mission was established in Llanelli during the 1880s. A Gothic Revival church followed in 1938, but structural problems led to its demolition in 1985. Work on the present building began in December 1993. Archbishop of Cardiff John Ward formally opened it on 11 July 1995. The Carmelites later transferred their ministry from Aberystwyth to Llanelli, having decided to relocate in 2002 and arrived two years later.
