About Ebenezer, Llanelli
Ebenezer, Llanelli is a former Independent, or Congregationalist, chapel on Inkerman Street in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire. Welsh was used for its services. The building is recognised as a National Monument of Wales.
The chapel was founded during the 1880s by people who had been dismissed from the nearby Tabernacle congregation. Thomas Thomas of Landore designed the building, which cost approximately £2,000 and had room for 800 worshippers. T. Orchwy Bowen served as minister from 1909 to 1921, declining an invitation to Trefgarne Church in Pembrokeshire in 1917. It outlasted most of Llanelli’s other Congregationalist chapels, with only Capel Als and Tabernacle remaining open longer.
