About Elim Independent Chapel
Elim Independent Chapel stands in a rural setting north of Carmarthen in Carmarthenshire, Wales, approximately a mile from the town. It has been protected as a Grade II listed building since 19 May 1981, reflecting its architectural interest as a nineteenth-century chapel.
Built by Morgan in 1849, the chapel has a classical design and a hipped roof. Its five-bay frontage includes a portico across the middle three bays, supported by substantial Bath stone columns, while the outer bays carry matching cornices. Inside, the restrained interior has a ceiling finished in timber and plaster. A gallery at the back features perforated cast-iron panels, and an arch intended for the organ sits beneath Corinthian pilasters. The interior dates largely from alterations made in 1887.
