About St Peter's Church, Offord D'Arcy
St Peter’s Church, Offord D’Arcy is a former Anglican parish church in the Offords, Cambridgeshire. Grade I listed, it occupies a site beside the East Coast railway with views across the River Great Ouse. Parish use ended in 1978, when All Saints’ in Offord Cluny assumed its role. The Churches Conservation Trust now looks after the building, which accommodates occasional worship and community events.
Built around 1150, the church began with a Norman nave, chancel and northern aisle. The chancel was renewed during the third quarter of the 13th century; a southern aisle arrived in 1320, followed by the western tower and its spire about 60 years later. The fabric combines pebbles and freestone with architectural details carved from Barnack limestone. Interior features include two medieval piscinas, sculpted memorial stones from the 1300s, surviving screen fragments and Richard Nailour’s early 17th-century alabaster monument. A 1913 organ and three bells cast between 1618 and 1676 remain, though none can presently be played.
