About St John the Baptist's Church

St John the Baptist's Church is a former Anglican place of worship in Parson Drove, Cambridgeshire, situated beside the B1169 near the village’s eastern edge. Now redundant, it is maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust and is protected as a Grade II* listed building.

Originally a chapel within Leverington parish, the church retains a 13th-century northern entrance, while its north aisle was built in the 14th century. Much of the remaining structure belongs to the late 1400s or early 1500s. Flooding destroyed the chancel in 1613, and the south aisle underwent substantial rebuilding around 1800 and again during the early 19th century. Built chiefly from brick and rubble masonry, with Barnack limestone on parts of the three-stage western tower, the church contains a 15th-century octagonal font, an oak pulpit dated 1677 and medieval stained-glass fragments. Five bells were made by Thomas Osborn around 1787. The nave roof was reconstructed in 1895, and the church closed in 1974.
