About Wesley Church And Attached Library

Wesley Church And Attached Library stands near Christ’s Pieces in the centre of Cambridge. It is a Grade II listed Methodist place of worship and continues to hold prayers each day and multiple Sunday services. The premises also accommodate community activities, including weekly meetings for Cambridge’s Methodist student society. Connections are maintained with the theological institution Wesley House and with The Leys School.

The present church opened in 1913, taking the place of a Wesleyan chapel erected on Hobson Street in 1849. That former location later became part of the County Hall development. Dedicated in honour of John Wesley, one of Methodism’s founders, the building was designed in the Gothic Revival manner. An extensive £1.3 million renovation took place in 1990, when an organ made by William Hill in 1844 was fitted within the church.
