About Church of St Mary and St Andrew

The Church of St Mary and St Andrew is a Church of England parish church in Grantchester, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. It remains the village’s parish church and is protected as a Grade II* listed building. Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, has held the patronage since 1352.

The earliest surviving fabric is from the 12th century. The chancel followed in the 14th century, with the nave and bell tower added during the 15th century. Clunch and fieldstone were used in its construction. A small chapel built across the main axis in the 1400s was removed during the 18th century. Victorian work included a new south aisle in the 1870s and substantial repairs to the nave in 1876 and 1877. Inside are a Norman font, a 17th-century pulpit thought to be from the chapel at Corpus Christi College, an organ dating to 1851, and stained glass largely from the 19th century. Three bells hang in the tower.
