About St James Church, Gerrards Cross
St James Church, Gerrards Cross is an active evangelical Anglican parish church in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. It forms part of Amersham Deanery in the Diocese of Oxford and is designated Grade II*. The present parish emerged from the union of the Gerrards Cross and Fulmer parishes. Their congregations came under one church council in 1984, with the legal merger following two years later. Worship takes place on Sundays, supported by provision for children and young people.
William Tite designed the church, which was completed in 1859 and dedicated by Oxford’s bishop on 30 August. The sisters of General George Alexander Reid, who had represented Windsor in Parliament, met the full building cost. An early pipe organ, possibly the work of Henry Jones, was later adapted by S. F. Dalladay in 1910 and Cedric Arnold, Williamson & Hyatt in 1970. A contemporary multipurpose centre was added behind the main building and inaugurated in March 2006.
