About St Michael and All Angels Church, Aston Clinton
St Michael and All Angels Church serves the Anglican parish of Aston Clinton, near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. It belongs to the Diocese of Oxford and holds Grade II* statutory protection in recognition of its historic and architectural importance.
Established around 1250, the church is formed from flint with dressed ashlar details. Surviving medieval work includes arcades of three bays, ornate upper-level windows, a stone basin, seating for three clergy and a recess used during Easter observances. The nave was reconstructed during the 1300s, when quatrefoil leaded windows with pink-tinted original glass were installed. The tower was rebuilt and its bells rehung in 1800, followed by alterations to the chancel in 1849 and extensive work on the naves and porches in 1867. Other features include traces of painted decoration in the chancel and a restored chamber over the southern porch.
