About Church Of St Mary
The Church of St Mary is a Church of England church in Coity Higher, Bridgend, in southern Wales. Recognised for its exceptional architectural and historic importance, it has held Grade I listed status since 26 July 1963.
Built principally during the 14th century, with a recorded date of 1301, the church underwent substantial changes in the 16th century, when its tower was added. J. Pritchard and J. P. Seddon carried out an extensive restoration in 1860. Stained glass at the east end was produced by Morris & Co., combining patterns by P. S. Webb with figures by P. P. Marshall. Its scenes include Christ rescuing Peter at sea, the healing of a woman and the doubting Thomas. Other features include a 19th-century eight-sided font and a pulpit dating from 1942.
