The church has 12th-century origins and is traditionally dated to around 1150. Notable surviving features include its prominent spire, a font made during the 14th century, and roofs dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. A local story concerns William Dickens, a builder said to have fallen while working on the steeple in 1718. According to the legend, he recited a prayer as he fell and was miraculously saved.
