About St. Kiaran’s Episcopal Church

St. Kiaran’s Episcopal Church stands on Argyll Street in Campbeltown, within the Argyll and Bute council area. It belongs to the Scottish Episcopal Church and is protected as a Category C listed structure.

Its congregation was established in 1848, initially gathering at Campbeltown Town Hall. Plans for a new place of worship did not proceed, so the former United Session Church in Argyll Street was purchased two years later. A rectory and gateways, created by architect Henry Edward Clifford, followed in 1885. Ronald Walker Stirling drew up the design for the later church building, which was finished in 1891. Alexander Chinnery-Haldane, then serving as Bishop of Argyll, consecrated it six years afterwards. A pipe organ by the Glasgow maker J. Brook, dating from about 1860, is housed inside. The firm Harrison and Harrison refurbished the organ in 1973.
