St John's Methodist Church is an active place of Methodist worship in Ponderlaw Street, Arbroath, Angus, with services held each Sunday at 11.00 am. It is Scotland’s second-oldest Methodist church and has been protected at Category B since 1971.
Its origins go back to 1772, when John Wesley established it on 6 May. The nave has eight sides, following a plan favoured by Wesley, and inspired the local name Totum Kirkie, referring to both its spinning-top shape and the Scots word for church. The original interior survives, while an 1882 enlargement introduced the entrance porch and an upper gallery. A hall followed in 1896. Among the church’s notable features is a stained-glass memorial recalling the Robert Lindsay lifeboat disaster of 1953, in which six members of its RNLI crew lost their lives.
