About Udny Green Church
Udny Green Church stands at the northern edge of the village green in Udny Green, Aberdeenshire, within the historic parish of Udny. Formerly a Church of Scotland parish church, it closed and was sold by the denomination in 2023. The building is protected at Category B.
Completed in granite in 1821, the church was designed by Aberdeen city architect John Smith in a Tudor Gothic manner. Its south front is dominated by a four-level tower with an arched doorway, clock, battlements and corner pinnacles. A wide slate roof covers the rectangular main body. Alexander Marshall Mackenzie restored the interior and renewed the roof in 1890. Stained glass was added to the north gable windows in 1927. Inside are white-painted walls, timber arched roof beams, galleries on three sides, a raised pulpit and a Harrison & Harrison pipe organ. The bell was cast by Thomas Mears II.
